History Xi Lambda

The X-Quisite Xi Lambda Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho was founded June 3, 1995 by five young women, under the auspices of Eta Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Oak Lawn, Illinois. The charter members include Sorors: Christina Scruggs (originally from Zeta Phi Chapter at Bradley University), Kymberly Sterling, Christina (Calbert) Outlay, Latonya Spiller, Tiwanda Parker. This marked the day in history for Sigma Gamma Rho in being the only African American sorority chartered at DePaul University.

Founded on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators at Butler University. Believed that the self-respect, knowledge and discipline gained through higher education would help youth recognize their duty and responsibility to society. Became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to Alpha Chapter at Butler University.
